Hikers raise $58,142 for Peruvian school
/CUSCO, Peru — A group of 10 Eastern Mennonite Missions hikers raised $58,142 in pledges to benefit the Promesa School, a K-11 Peruvian Mennonite school.
During the first-ever adventure fundraiser, the hikers traversed 61 miles around Peru’s Ausangate mountain, the highest peak in the Cusco region at 20,945 feet. The hikers crossed four mountain passes over 16,000 feet and spent two nights sleeping at elevations over 15,000 feet. The hikers not only had to deal with snow and wind, but altitude sickness as well.
